“Douceur et Harmonie: Domain Maman Terre” A Vegan, Intentional and Eco Community
Welcome to the domain of Mother Earth “Douceur et Harmonie”: a vegan, intentional and eco community.
We are looking for long-term and permanent residents and investors.
We are vegan community (Vivien, Bluette, Sylvain, guests and visitors) living on 21 hectares of protected green forest and organic gardens. Situated in the eastern Pyrenees in the south of France. The house and gardens are on a ridge where you can see both the sun rise in the east and set in the west, the Mediterranean in the distance and have a great view of the sacred Canigou mountain of Catalonia. This area is famous for incredible fresh stream water, river swimming, natural hot baths, abundant local and Spanish produce, camping, hiking and great lighting.
Generally everyone speaks French but Bleuette is fluent in English and German. There is a plenty of wild edible herbs, vegetable and herb gardens, fruit trees and berry bushes. Food is usually organic fruits, veggies, herbs, nuts, fresh (non wheat) bread, brown rice, spices, oils, and fresh carrot juice. The water comes from a spring on the property and is delicious. A peaceful, calm, tranquil, inspiring and quiet environment where the focus has been “gentleness and harmony” since 1964 when Viviane first arrived. There is always something to do in the gardens and orchards or around the large house.
The Douceur et Harmonie property is owned by an association and is strictly vegan (no smoking, no alcohol, no meat or animal products) and keen on the ethical and loving treatment of animals. Hence, D et H has been the home of many vegetarian animals such a birds, geese, ducks, rabbits, roosters and chickens; however, carnivorous animals such as dogs and cats are not welcome due to their tendency to attack the above animals (this has happened in the past). Solar heated water, solar ovens.
To those who help in the garden, cooking and maintenance of the domain it’s free. Membership of the association is mandatory (10 euros).

I`d like to live in international intentional community, where different people live together with nature in a more open and honest way, where they work on a new and better world. I`d like to focus on the following values: integrity, transparency and openness, interest and care for each other and the environment. Also fond of therapy work, holistic well-being, and spiritual growth.
All my previous life I lived in overcrowded mega polices fought for money, hourly stood in smoggy traffic, daily sat at offices, got nervous and mad on everything around and dreamed to get rid from all a that, but I had to response for my grand parents, wife and children. Take care, provide, entertain, educate, feed, defend, etc.
Now all that problems have gone. Children grown up and grandchildren have their own opinions quite differ from my own. I feel free to devote the rest of my life to my own inner world. I like to write fairy tales, carving figures from wood, like all kinds of animals. I wake up early in the morning about 4 o`clock. Nature and sky at that time most pure and clean. Soul is celebrating. The best fruitful time for any kind of work starts from 5 a.m and finished about 3 o`clock in the afternoon for me. Then I have little meal (one time a day, except Friday – no meal at all). After that I`m ready to walk around, communicate, surf Internet get and share information, impressions. Day over about 9 in the evening when I cut off. Naturally, I can work in any other schedule, but prefer morning time.
I am interested in permaculture, earth-based spiritualities, direct action, physical training , dancing and singing and making music, polyamorous relationships, cooking, organising gatherings, and being a positive force for transition.
Recently I found information about your place at the internet. Main principles of your community attract me much. I`d like to join your community as volunteer work in exchange. If there is such possibility, I`m ready to come this Fall.

I’m a seventeen year old girl, living in Sweden, Stockholm. I’ve been thinkin of going to France a long time, I’ve studied the language in six years and want to experience the world outside sweden since i haven’t been abroad many times.
Your village sounds fantastic, I myself is very intrested in living in harmony with the environment and nature (i go to a collage with recykling and a focus on global environmental questions) i am a vegetarian (going to be a vegan when i move out from my parents) and try to live my city life as environment friendly as i can. I am interested in seeing your way of living in contrast to my ordenary citylife! Is there posibilities to come and live with you a period, in the summer, perhaps? Since my economy isn’t very good i wonder if i could exchande working with you for a bed and food?

In answer to Alex’s message . I want to say that these assertions are entirely wrong. I often stayed at Maman Terre and the food is more than correct and good quality, including fruit vegetables, legums and cereals, in sufficient quantity. Grass is used only in juices with carots and other vegetables.
If the work is sometimes quite intense, depending on the season, breaks periods are important and noone have to take part in these activities;

I was also in Douceur et Harmonie for 2 and a half months and need to correct this post.
First, work was absolutely correct there. 6 hours / day, expect Sunday, like in every volunteering place. They were also flexible if anyone had special wishes, would like to go for excursions, etc.
Second, food was excellent and wery good quality. Yes, they are vegans and give vegan food for the visitors and volunteers also, but they make this clear from the first moment, they write this for everyone before the first visit.
Bleuette bakes bread, they often made hummus from chickpea, they have fresh salad from the garden everyday with 3-4 types of good quality virgin oil (olive, walnut etc.) They also offer everyday seasonal fruit, apples, pears, figs (they have many fig bushes), melon, the exotic khahi fruit, and in autumn time baked chesnuts (mmm…how yummi its was…) etc. They have homemade marmalade; honey, soymilk, nuts, raisins, many kinds of teas. They also cook rice, buckweat, millet and delicious vegetable soups. And yes, sometimes they made fresh juice varied with carrot, beetroot, apple, and they add grass. I found it very unique, tasty and healthy.
“They will feed you like in a concentration camp”??? I AM SORRY??? I would like to know in which concentration camp started the residents their day with homemade bread (sometimes still warm) with sesame, tahini cream or peanuts cream with green jasmine tea, continued with vegetable soup, rice, salad from 5-6 types of salad with hummus and extra virigin olive oil, figs just from the fig tree, and finished with baked chesnuts???
If people of concentration camps got Douceur and Harmonie food they would be happier and healtier than ever.
As far as I know they got only some badly cooked soup and a piece of dry bread, or nothing.
At least we learned this in history lessons.
Douceur and Harmony food is totally the opposite, it was the best for me, I still miss it, and try to remake it in my own house.
I can recommend it for anyone.

Can i come and visit you? My biggest wish is to live in a vegan ecovillage and learn to become a 100% vegan myself. I feel so much anger and sadness towards “normal” people who eat meat right now, it´s killing me, especially that they don ´t understand what they are doing, treating living creatures as things…

I have come across some mentions of your project, which lead me here. After reading a bit about your goals and projects, I have become quite interested in seeing how you organize things and share your ideals and knowledge; I am thinking of paying a visit to a community in late November, and yours is at the top of my list! It is obvious that things will change, if not because people want it to change, then because there is no alternative, and to organize this change into something as interesting as you present is a very good starting point. Let me know about the possibility of a visit (me and my partner), what we need to know or do to make it happen, and hopefully we can learn from you and help spread your intentions further.

Je voudrais faire du bénévolat à votre éco-village avec deux autres pour une semaine en Août. J’apprécie les objectifs et la philosophie du mouvement éco-village, en particulier votre intérêt pour le véganisme, et j’aimerais vraiment participer. Nous sommes anglaises, je parle très peu de français et mes deux amies ne parlent que l’anglais. J’étudie le français au collège et voudrais utiliser cette occasion pour améliorer. J’ai lu votre site et je pense que le travail que vous faites est très impressionnant et la région est magnifique. Nous aimerions vraiment aider. Nous sommes trois femmes, j’ai 17 ans et les autres avons 18 et 40 ans. Nous n’avons pas de compétences spécialisées, mais nous sommes heureux d’aider partout, nous pourrions faire la cuisine ou le jardinage par exemple. J’ai une allergie au blé et au gluten – pourrais-je trouver la nourriture à manger en restant à votre éco-village?

Pas de probléme pour le gluten , chaque jour il y a une céréale sans gluten , legumineuse ou légume du jardin , fruits et chacun choisit ce qui lui convient le mieux .
Certains d’entre nous pratiquent le nudisme au jardin et pour les bains au dehors car nous avons remarqué que c’est très bon pour la santé.

winter time is not so cold and there is some rooms with a wood heater .The place is really quiet and isolated surronding with forest .(21 ha )
Perpignan is the nearest town with an airport :60km from maman terre ; after there is a one euro bus .

Tu as un autre bus à 16h10 qui arrive à Arles sur tech à 17h25 .
Il est tres lent et aprés Arles su tech il n’y a plus de connection donc il faut continuer en stop à Serralongue .

Myself and my boyfriend in desperation just googled Vegan Communities worldwide and this project spoke out to us. I am Britsh, having been oversea’s since 2012 meeting Sean in Australia and have been travelling ever since. We are both vegans, travelling the world to make a difference volunteering at various charities and eco projects. Hello,
I saw your website and im thinking about staking for cost and living for a couples of weeks in south France. I have turned my live around in 4 months form drugs, alcohol, smoking and eating meat, to no drugs, no smoking, no drinkin and eating vegan. I realised i was doing those things just to forget about my problems.
My plan for now is staying in a eco place for a couple of weeks to find my true self. I also started meditating and it helps me a lot.
Can i stay with you for a couple of weeks for cost and living?

Je m’appelle Jordi et je suis resté quelques jours au début du mois d’avril de cette année dans votre communauté.
Je fais du vélo depuis presque trois ans dans différents pays d’Europe et j’ai le sentiment que cette étape est terminée.
Je garde un très bon souvenir des jours que j’ai passés avec vous et nous avons même pu partager une séance de yoga.
Je vois différentes options pour continuer mon voyage, mais ce que j’ai bien compris, c’est que la vie dans une ville ou une petite population ne m’accompagne pas.
Je suis en train d’observer la possibilité de passer une saison dans votre communauté, de collaborer aux tâches nécessaires et d’apporter ma modeste facette de professeur de yoga et de méditation.
Envisagez-vous cette possibilité? Ce serait possible?

souhaité .

L’âme de Viviane a pris son envol le 2 mars et pour toujours elle est dans nos coeurs . De nombreux amis sont venus nous soutenir et lui rendre un bel hommage . Merci à Paol pour son accompagnement musical ,merci à Philipe et Marie fidèles sociétaires qui ont pris en main les démarches administratives nous permettant de l’enterrer dans la forêt sur ce domaine qu’elle aime tant .A la fin de la cérémonie un signe de Viviane est apparu sous la forme d’un magnifique arc en ciel que nous avons contemplé .
Merci Jalila pour ta réceptivité , cela nous fait du bien et peut être un jour nous nous rencontrerons .

Je suis dans le Conflent depuis un an et demi.
Cet été j étais dans le gardiennage de maisons autour de Prades, en recherche d un habitat groupé…
Je suis devenue végétalienne ces derniers mois. Je recherche des lieux sans élevages et sans trop de travail de la terre…Les plantes sauvages, les cueillettes de fruits, leurs transformations me passionnent !
J’ ai 66 ans, dans quelques mois je toucherai ma retraite. Votre lieu m a plu car on y sent une âme, de la poésie… éléments qui manquent dans les projets de vie regroupée où l on reste souvent dans l ancien monde rationnel !

We’ve searched and searched and finally searched a web site of your ,,european shamballa,, – Douceur et Harmonie. But we are not sure, if your community is still actual. We are on a crossroad of live and looking for anybody, who has decided to live in a different aspect of life, who has different value system of life. We have found a few ,,alternative,, communities, but all of them ignored the most important aspect- spirituality, working on theirselves, working with mind… So we are searching abroad and found you and it should be quite nice if we could visit you and meet each other. Of course if you want. We want to do a STOP in a current life, help with all daily works of community and cultivate spiritual aspect in the name ,,work and meditate,,. We feel, that transformation of society has been already started and many changes come soon. By the way we both are strictly vegan, living in caravan, manually skilled. But unfortunately we don’t speak French and we hope, that it could be good to learn at least a basics of your language by daily life.
